Bishnu Ghosh was a contemporary of B.K.S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois. He is linked to the tradition of Kriya Yoga through his family and helped develop the physical culture movement in modern India by creating the Ghosh College of Physical Education. His most famous student was Bikram Choudhury. Ghosh's parents followed Lahiri Mahasaya, a disciple of Babaji Nagarji. Kriya Yoga is know as the yoga performed with awareness. Ghosh's brother, Mukunda Lai founded a yoga school. He was later to be know to the world as Paramahansa Yogananda, the founder of the Self Realization Fellowship Society and author of the book Autobiography of a Yogi. Ghosh learned the 84 postures of the yoga system from Yogananda and Bikram further distilled the system into 26 plus 2.
